Sid and Joan Having Fun.
I found this lovely picture of Sid and Joan Carrying On on the set of 'Henry' - they look like they're having such fun. It made me smile and I wanted to share it.

Kenneth Williams With Friends Tom and Clive.
Kenneth Williams often spoke of his friends Tom and Clive in his diaries. I always wondered what they looked like and in the Christopher Stevens' biography 'Born Brilliant' there's a photo, which I've reproduced here.

Carry On Darkly.
Just rewatched Carry On Darkly on Youtube. Admittedly, many of the Carry On stars had their crosses to bear but I can't help but feel that the makers of this documentary were trying to make their lives appear completely angst-ridden and miserable. They had their moments, yes I agree, but there was also a lot of fun and love there too. Just a load of muck raking if you ask me!
I've added a gratutious 'sexy' Barbara Windsor photo to counteract the misery of Carry On Darkly. :-)
Carry On Touring.
Seen all the films? Got the t-shirt etc... How about going on a Carry On tour? The tour covers several of the homes owned by Carry On stars in London. It takes place on Saturdays and Sundays during the Summer(ish) months of April and September. For more information simply visit www.carryontour.com

Carry On Soaping?
In my little fantasy world I have this dream where a new Carry On film is made. Yes I know the bulk of the original cast are long gone and that Columbus was pretty dire but I live in hope. If I was making it I would set it backstage on a soap opera and call it Carry On Soaping. I think that that setting would give it plenty of scope and the perfect opportunity for Ms Windsor to head the cast list as an ageing actress returning to a long running soap that she left several years earlier. What would be your setting for a new Carry On film?

Hope I Don't End Up With Pie On MY Face! :-)
So, here I am again. I admit to not having been a very good blog keeper up until now but that is going to change. I hereby promise to regularly update this blog with AT LEAST one post a week. So, check back on Sunday when there will be a new post (if not more.) I've done a bit of general tidying and tarting up today but will write something that I hope you'll find interesting over the next few days. Thanks.

Jack Douglas Tribute Event.
On Sunday 8th May 2011 there will be a Jack Douglas Tribute Event at Pinewood Studios. Jack of course appeared in a handful of Carry On films and whilst I personally found most of his characters somewhat annoying (except in 'Dick') I thought that people may like to know about this event. Barbara Windsor's Comedy Roast.
Yes I know it's a bit 'after the event' but I thought I'd give you my perspective of this event as I was actually in the audience.
What was recorded on the evening bore little resemblance to what was actually broadcast. The actual recording was about 2 hours long and VERY rude - in places it went beyond 'near the knuckle'. I am in no way a prude and thrive on innuendo and double entendres but this was actually quite nasty in places. Patrick Kielty was especially cruel.
Barbara looked genuinely shocked at times and kept muttering things like 'what time's this going out' etc... She had a few rather worried exchanges with a guy who was either her PA or something to do with her publicity. On occasion I couldn't even look at her following particularly vitriolic comments. I'm sure she's heard all the old gangster and toyboy jokes before but on this evening they descended into an unpleasant tirade of abuse from the alleged comedians. Apart from Bernard Cribbins, who was a perfect gentleman and Christopher Biggins.
I left the event quite shocked and I can't emphasise enough how un PC I am and how much I usually like quite 'rude' humour. There's a huge gulf however between something that's funny and something that's just plain crude. I really felt for Babs that evening. And 'gawd bless her', during one of the breaks in filming she trolled around the audience shaking hands and full of 'thanks for coming darlin'' etc... Thankfully Scott (her husband) wasn't there or I should imagine that the event may have made the 10 o'clock news that night. 'Comedians punched in face by irate husband' would have been the headline.
